Duplex penthouse in Mechelen
A rooftop apartment in Mechelen, transformed through renovation and extension into a duplex penthouse with its own character in every room.
The brief
The existing rooftop apartment had to grow into a fully fledged home on two levels, with room for the whole family. The greatest challenge was to make the extension and the existing apartment feel like one whole.
The approach
We renovated the apartment and extended it, creating a duplex. Oak parquet brings calm to the living spaces and bedrooms. The bathroom forms a deliberate contrast: walls, floor and bath surround received a dark, seamless finish, and white doors with decorative glazing bars connect it to the bedroom. The shower was entirely clad in pebble mosaic. The handleless white kitchen gains depth from the handmade tiles behind the worktop.
