BERG

City home in Mechelen

A hidden gem in the heart of Mechelen, where a considered total renovation respects the authentic character of the home and makes room for light, openness and a strong connection with the garden.

City home in Mechelen: project BERG by BRIQ

The brief

The home had already been renovated and was in good condition when it was bought, but the clients did not yet feel entirely at home there. They had a clear picture of what they wanted to change and brought their ideas to BRIQ. The challenge was to translate those ideas into a coherent design, with respect for the character of the home.

The approach

No architect was involved in this project. BRIQ took care of everything from A to Z: the design and the material choices together with the clients, the complete guidance and the execution on site. We looked for the right balance between the authentic character of the home and contemporary living comfort. The kitchen and living spaces, two bathrooms and the bespoke joinery in the bedrooms now form one refined whole, in which white taps and matt blue tiles provide a subtle and playful accent.

Materials and finishes

  • Existing parquet floor, preserved
  • Poured floor in the kitchen
  • Staircase finished in carpet
  • Topcer tiles in the bathrooms
  • Corian kitchen worktop
