Loft in Mechelen
An open loft in the centre of Mechelen, built around a large central patio that brings daylight deep into the home, with an exposed timber structure that adds warmth and character.
The brief
The client wanted to transform an industrial building in the centre of Mechelen into an open loft, built around an inner patio.
The approach
Technically it was no simple matter to make the inner patio watertight within the existing structure. The location in the city centre also brought logistical challenges.
Materials and finishes
- Seamless poured floor
- Large ceramic terrace tiles, running from the patio into the living space
- Kitchen in light oak veneer
- Black timber boarding in the patio
