Steenhouwersvest
Three apartments in Antwerp
Three apartments on the Steenhouwersvest, stripped back to the shell and rebuilt with black details and a weathered wall as an eye-catcher.
The brief
The building on the Steenhouwersvest had to be transformed into three contemporary apartments with greater openness. The greatest challenge was to create that openness within the existing structure of the building.
The approach
We stripped the entire building back to the shell and renewed all building services. Room-spanning beams created greater openness. Then came the plastering, the floors, the ceilings and the new furniture. One wall was given a raw, weathered finish as a character piece, and black switches, door handles and taps recur in every room. On the top floor, the roof structure was left exposed and painted white.
Materials and finishes

- Raw, white-painted wall as an accent
